The Grand Hotel Birmingham announces phased soft opening

The Grand Hotel Birmingham will open its doors, revealing its £45million restoration and refurbishment, to the public on 4 November, as part of a phased soft opening. Housed in one of Birmingham’s most iconic buildings overlooking the city’s prestigious Colmore Row, the luxury hotel is a Grade II* listed building.

Peter Kienast, General Manager of The Grand Hotel Birmingham, said “We’re very excited about opening our doors to the public; we can’t wait to reveal the stunning restoration that has seen one of the city’s most iconic buildings returned to glory. We’ve carefully considered how to create a 21st-centrury luxury experience alongside measures to ensure the safest experience for our guests and colleagues.”

From 4 November, guests will be able to stay in one of the hotel’s 185 guest rooms and suites and to meet and drink in Madeleine, the hotel’s glamorous cocktail bar.  From Thursday 12 November, a Festive Afternoon Tea will be served in Madeleine every Thursday to Saturday, priced £25 (until 30th November) including a glass of Champagne.

The Grand Hotel Birmingham’s staycation package includes a ‘hamper’ designed to provide everything guests need to party for two upon returning to their room post 10pm. The hamper consists of a bottle of Champagne or a bottle of spirit (gin, vodka, rum or bourbon) with a mixer of choice and a selection of snacks including nuts, olives and chocolate.

Free guided tours will take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for a maximum of five people per tour (plus guide), and will include a chance to see the stunning Grand Ballroom. Tours are subject to availability and to any change to government guidelines, tickets for tours are bookable online from 12 November.

Retaining the building’s French Renaissance exterior, Victorian and Arts & Crafts features and paying homage to its illustrious history, the restoration also includes new penthouse suites with spectacular views across St Phillip’s Cathedral and the city beyond.

When the hotel is fully open next year, it will also include an outdoor garden terrace –  set to become one of the city’s most in-demand destinations; two bars and a destination restaurant; a hotel gym; and state-of-the-art meeting and event spaces.

For the time-being, the hotel will be open from 11am every Tuesday to 3pm every Sunday, with Madeleine open Tuesday to Saturday from 12 noon to 10pm.

Interior design by Robert Angell Design International reflects the passion and spirit of contemporary Birmingham, whilst paying homage to the building’s stunning original features and history.

The Grand Hotel, Birmingham
“We’re looking forward to providing visitors to Birmingham – and locals alike – with a truly one-of-a-kind destination that combines the splendour and heritage of this landmark building with the energy and vibrancy of 21st-century Birmingham.”
